Sony had chosen to do away with conventional CD, DVD-R on the PSP to discourage gamers from illegally duplicating the PSP roms. It was thought to be an impossible task to create a PSP emulator or a ROM, however as with most other consoles, hackers found a way out. When the PSP was first released importing games onto the console meant getting around the anti-piracy coding and region blocks. Serious gamers found a way out by adding mod-chips to dodge all sorts of limits that Sony enforced. The PSP has two firmware versions with which you can download PSP roms. A recent development in the relentless race to crack the PSP is that hackers have found a way to get dump from the UMD disc.

They have also released the image (ISO) files for numerous games like Wipeout: Pure and Vampire Chronicles: The Chaos Tower. The UMD disc is designed to use the ISO9669 format, this means that the newly released ISO’s can also be burned to normal DVD’s and CD’s. Although the games cannot be played in this format as of now, they are nevertheless a huge step as the all the reverse engineers to go out and take things apart. Sony has made it clear that they won’t release any burners for UMD. This means you won’t be playing the ISO games anytime soon. PSP roms lets you long lost arcade games, which are to still lose their fun factor. All you need is your PSP, USB cable, CPS2PSP, SPS1PSP and of course the PSP rom which you intend to use. There are numerous emulators out there so you won’t have a problem of not being able to match your PSP rom and the emulator. Once you have created a ‘cache’ folder on your PSP rom directory the emulator loads from it when the game starts.
